Institution:
- There to ultimately make money.
- Media production is done by organisations.
- Organisations make the product, sell it, advertise and distribute it.
- The type of institution can influence the media product.
Media Language:
- The way in which media texts communicate with people that use them.
- Words like: camera movement, editing and sound are all under the media language umbrella.
- The words, images and sounds of media products.
- How the media is constructed.
- How the media communicates with us.
Representation:
- Media products present us with information about the world .
- This information has to be selected and shaped towards what we see or hear.
- media production means that all information is represented.
- For example, if a person on the front cover of a magazine was wearing a hoodie and smashing up a car, the magazine is trying to tell us that people who wear hoodies are violent.
Audience:
- The people who consume the product
- People the product is aimed at
- 'primary' and 'secondary' target audience e.g. Disney's primary target audience is young kids, and the secondary target audience is the parents.
